Ageing Skin
IPL will rejuvenate your skin by stimulating deep collagen production. Your skin will appear smoother, plumper and lifted, with uneven skin tone and skin texture greatly improved. Open pores will also be minimised.

During this treatment the light is absorbed by the appropriate structure in the skin stimulating collagen production or coagulating the tiny blood vessels, or breaking up the melanin in the pigmentation patch. Most people will need around 6 treatments for rejuvenation and up to 6 treatments for other conditions.

Red Veins
The light is absorbed by the veins causing coagulation of these tiny blood vessels.

Pigmentation
The light is absorbed by the sun spot, age spot or other pigmentation and breaks up the melanin – melanin is the substance in the skin which causes pigmentation.

Active Acne
The light stimulates the production of oxygen which destroys the bacteria responsible for the pustules and other blemishes associated with acne. The pustules heal and redness and inflammation are greatly reduced. The skin’s healing response kicks in which improves any scarring and reduces further outbreaks.

Note: The treatment of red veins, age spots or other pigmentation, rosacea and scar tissue are all included in a rejuvenation session.

What makes this IPL/VPL system special?
Traditionally, light-based treatment has been associated with lasers. As technology has progressed, research has shown that Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), and in particular Variable Pulsed Light (VPL) are regularly producing better results than the laser units originally available.

Note: Pulsed light units are non-laser, emitting light across a broad range of wavelengths that are preferentially absorbed by the appropriate structure in the skin.

How does IPL/VPL work?
The Energist Ultra VPL system is designed so that each shot of light comprises a sequence of rapid shorter pulses. These variable pulses ensure more controlled absorption by the appropriate structures whilst minimising heating of the surrounding tissues. This means that a greater range of skin types can be safely and effectively treated than was previously possible.

What is the IPL/VPL treatment process?
After a full consultation with one of our fully trained IPL/VPL therapists, a comprehensive treatment programme can be developed to match your needs.

The area to be treated will be prepared and the applicator head will be stepped progressively across the skin to ensure complete coverage. An intense flash of light is applied to each section of the area to be treated. It feels like a tiny sting and is quite tolerable.

Is there anything I need to do prior to or after IPL/VPL treatment?
Sun or tanning beds must be avoided for at least four weeks prior to treatment, to ensure your skin is as close to its natural colour as possible. You must also avoid the sun for seven days after IPL/VPL treatment.

Your therapist will advise you at the time of any other precautions to take.

8 Weeks Before Treatment
Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading. These methods remove the hair root, which is needed for IPL to be effective.
4 Weeks Before Treatment
No sun exposure or self-tanning. UV exposure increases the risk of pigmentation changes and skin sensitivity.
1 Week Before Treatment
Stop using exfoliants and active skincare products. Avoid retinol, glycolic acid, and vitamin C on the treatment area.
3 Days Before Treatment
Discontinue photosensitizing medications. This includes drugs like doxycycline and minocycline.
24–48 Hours Before Treatment
Do not use perfumed products or bleaching creams. These can irritate the skin.
Day of Treatment

AQUALYX™ is an injectable treatment of 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24-oico cholanic acid sodium salts, which is a modified compound of cholanic acid. It is not a simple solution of deoxycholate. It is being marketed for ‘Aqualysis’ or ‘Aquaplasty’ treatment as a means of body contouring. This is a form of injection lipolysis, lipotherapy or intralipotherapy.

It was developed by Professor Pasquale Motolese, president of the Italian Society of Aesthetics and Medicine and first introduced in 2009. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Motolese`s Solution’.
AQUALYX is manufactured by the Italian firm Marllor and was first launched in the UK in 2013. It is distributed in the UK by Healthxchange Pharmacy.
AQUALYX was developed to treat localised pockets of fat underneath the surface of the skin.
It can be used to treat fat pockets on the back, chin, stomach, underneath the buttocks, hips, thighs and knees. It can also be used to treat pseudo-gynaecomastia, the development of fatty tissue around the nipple, resulting in a “breast”-like appearance in men, (due to weight gain rather than the growth of actual breast tissue as seen in genuine male gynaecomastia).
Clinical data shows that the application of AQUALYX is effective and safe, leading to an increasingly contoured appearance.

WHAT IS AQUALYX?

AQUALYX is an aqueous compound solution, with slow-release sugar that reduces the biological half-life of the solution, minimising side effects.
The ingredients are a polymer from 3, 6-Anhydro-L-Galactose and D-Galactose (0.5%), buffer systems (4.2%), sodium salt of (3a, 5a, 12a) - 3, 12-dihydroxy-5-cholan-24-acid (7.5%), water for injection purposes (87%) and sodium chloride (0.8%).
The buffer system within AQUALYX ensures that the 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24oico cholanic acid sodium salt is delivered to the target area.
Deoxycholic acid has been used in various fields of human medicine since its discovery. Present also in the human body, deoxycholic acid is used in the emulsification of fats for the absorption in the intestine.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The solution is injected into the treatment area whereby the 12alfa-dihydroxy-5beta-24-oico cholanic acid sodium salt of AQUALYX alters the surface tension of the fat cell membrane and increases the permeability of the membrane. An ultrasound device is then applied over the surface of the skin in the targeted area and this causes the movement of liquids both inside and outside the fat cells. The fat cells start to balloon and break up, leading to the drainage of micro droplets of fatty liquid into the body, which is then metabolised through the lymphatic system and excreted.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING TREATMENT?
One AQUALYX treatment typically consists of two injection sites. A local anaesthetic, lidocaine, will usually be administered before the treatment commences. The practitioner may prefer however to add the lidocaine anaesthetic to the AQUALYX solution so that the two are injected together. Either method should minimise discomfort during the procedure.
The practitioner will use an ultrasound device in conjunction with the AQUALYX injections to assist in the dissipation of the fat cells.

TREATMENT REGIME
The time taken for a treatment session will depend upon the size of the area and indication being treated.
Treatment can take between 30 - 60 minutes per treatment and you will typically require 2 - 8 treatments, 4 weeks apart. Some people may see significant results after 1 or 2 sessions.

Don't shave your legs or use lotion on them. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

During the procedure
You lie on your back with your legs slightly raised. A member of your health care team cleans the area to be treated. Then your care provider uses a small needle to slowly put solution into the vein.

The solution, usually a liquid, works by irritating the lining of the vein, causing it to swell shut and block the flow of blood.

Some people feel minor stinging or cramping when the needle goes into the vein. Tell your provider if it hurts a lot. Pain might result from the solution leaking from the vein into the tissue around it.

After removing the needle, your provider applies pressure to the area and massages it to keep blood out of the vein and to spread the solution. The provider might tape a pad onto the injection site to keep pressure on the area before moving on to the next vein.

The number of shots depends on the number of veins being treated.

After the procedure
You can get up and walk around soon after the procedure. Walking and moving helps keep blood clots from forming.

Wearing compression stockings or bandages — usually for about two weeks — will keep pressure on the treated veins. Don't shave your leg or use lotion on it until the site heals.

Most people return to their regular activities on the same day, but you might want to have someone drive you home after the procedure. Your health care provider might tell you to avoid hard exercise for two weeks after the procedure.

Avoid having the treated areas in sun for two weeks, as well. Or use sunscreen with at least 30 SPF. Being in the sun can lead to dark spots on the skin, especially for those with dark skin.

Results
Results of sclerotherapy for small varicose veins or spider veins usually show in 3 to 6 weeks. Larger veins might take 3 to 4 months. However, you might need more than one treatment to get the results you want.

Veins that respond to treatment generally don't come back. But new veins can appear.

Your health care provider might ask you to return for a follow-up visit about a month after the procedure to see the results. You might need more sessions. Generally, you need to wait about six weeks before having another sclerotherapy session. View less
